Checking in with winter crops

While most of the research farm is blanketed with snow, the growing season is getting started inside our unheated high tunnels. Yesterday, I poked around to check on the status of our experiments. While it was hard to see much inside the low tunnels, which are sealed up tight with snow and ice, the winter sprouting broccoli in the high tunnels appears to be thinking that spring is just around the corner.

Under the row cover, the winter sprouting broccoli is dark green, waiting for the longer days of spring, when it will start to produce shoots.
